100 Mile walk, the South Downs Way in seven days unsupported PDF Print E-mail

Hi

My name is Chris Wilson, my age 49 in September.  I and John Burton started on the 14th of July this year a little walk, we started in Winchester and finnished in Eastbourne.

This was in aid of a Charity called Help for Heroes, this Charity raise funds to help our wounded troops.  The injures could be physical or they could be psychological.  John and Myself decided that two Fat Lads like us would help to raise funds for this excellant Charity, to achieve this it was also decided to walk one hundred miles unsupported, what do's this mean?

This means that John and Myself would be carrying every thing we would need for the journey, food clothing shelter cooker and other kit total weight of the back packs 35 Kilo each, no one to support us if things went wrong.  We started on the morning of the 14th of July 2010 in Winchester, 7 days later after wind rain baking sun and lots and lots of hills blisters and salted shoulders we arrived at Eastbourne Ellated that it was over and  most important, we had done it.

So far we have collected £683, the final estimated total will be £2000.  We are still collecting and there is an oppertunity here for people to donate if they wish to, all you have to do is follow this web address.  http://www.bmycharity.com/2fatlads  If you have ever bought anything online its the same, its secure and easy.  Please dont forget to tick Gift aid, this means the Goverment have to give the tax back Yippee some thing for free.

Thanks for your time

All our best

Chris and John

Raising Aspirations in Bolsover – September 2010

As part of the Raising Aspirations project commissioned by Bolsover Local Strategic Partnership, Chesterfield College is offering residents in the district a FREE personal development course to encourage positive progression in to employment, volunteering or further training.

The course is available to those over the age of 19, living in the Bolsover district that are currently claiming benefits and out of work. The course is completely free with travel and childcare costs covered for the duration of the programme.

During the course, individuals work with tutors to build a portfolio of employability evidence including CV’s and personal statements as well as taking part in a work placement scheme. The course will also give individuals access to specialist advice and guidance on areas such as debt, housing, healthy eating and benefits. Upon completion of the City and Guilds course, participants are awarded a certificate demonstrating their development and employability along with a £25 gift voucher.

Emily Williams, Raising Aspirations Project Manager, explains, “The course is an ideal gateway for Bolsover district residents who may be out of work and claiming benefits, and who have the drive to get back into working in the community but don’t necessarily know how to, without their benefits being affected.”

To find out more contact Emily Williams on 01246 520259. Emily will be happy to provide advice to anyone who is interested in the programme.

The stall which will be open from 10.30 until 2.30 each day will be staffed by local traders and friends.

The scheme is being supported by the Amber Vally Borough Council who manage the market.

The market has recently seen a number of new businesses opening and the bag exchange scheme is an opportunity for local shoppers to re-acquaint themselves with the traders on the market.
